Foundation for Democratic Youth (DIA)


Founded by Roger Landrum and Richard Harrill, DIA started its activities in 1999 in Hungary with the goal of making youth service well understood and widespread both within and outside the school system. 

DIA is a leading NGO in the following areas:

  • Youth Service
  • Debating (European Structured Dialogue and National Youth Council)
  • Policy and strategy development in the areas of citizenship and global education

DIA’s mission: It is our belief that modern democracies should rely on the active participation of well-informed citizens. Therefore our aim is to promote youth service on the national and international level.
DIA’s operations include:

  •     National Youth Service Day + Global Youth Service Day in Europe
  •     Debate programmes promoting formal debating and public speaking skills
  •     Development of entrepreuneurship skills
  •     School-based youth services activities
  •     International cooperation

DIA’s achievements in numbers:
In 11 years DIA

  •     Reached 100 000 young people and 300 sites in Hungary
  •     Trained and mentored 500 teachers
  •     Organized dozens of teacher training sessions
  •     Organized 2 national debate tournaments

    Developed 4 different kinds of in-service teacher training packages

    Produced thousands of media coverages
