Exhibition on Volunteering

An old empty bookshop was the home of our art exhibition during the Citizens’ Convention. On Thursday afternoon, the sun was shining through the windows and the opening of the exhibition was the start of a successful, sunny weekend. Participants and other interested groups gathered while the artists and representatives talked about the work they were exhibiting. Since every speaker used a different language, it felt like Europe was very present! The exhibition was open during the whole event and especially on Saturday, when it was very well attended.

The exhibition consisted of the following elements:

- The European Movement Germany had made a display of the prize-winning contributions to the school contest “Europäischer Wettbewerb”. The work in 2011 needed to deal with the idea of “volunteering”

- Elisabetta Lombardo presented her work entitled “Structurally recyclable, basically disposable” on “free labour”, which is erroneously branded as “volunteering” in many job descriptions.

- As a part of her project “Nußknacker”, Daniela Nasoni from Varese (Italy) created nutcrackers all day. Later on they were handed over to people in Landau as a thank you for their engagement.
